I ended up doing an error check earlier and the error code 2000-0146 popped up. The code came up with this: DST Log contains previous error.
Here's a few screenshots of my Event Viewer:

As you can see, i've got some HUGE problem on my computer.... just waiting on that blue screen of death now.

Take a look at this, Health Status: Caution. Yup, this confirms my hard drive is on the verge of death. I'm publicly logging this as proof of a crappy hard drive from Dell in my 2 1/2 year old Dell Inspiron E1705.
I don't know what to do now. I've read up, and some people have said to replace the hard drive. If I were to replace a new internal hard drive, any recommendations? I'm probably planning on getting a 320GB internal hard drive. HD must be 2.5'' SATA. Hope some of you can chime in!
Judging by the model number of your hard drive, it must be a Seagate. See if you can get a replacement hard drive from them even though you bought it with the laptop in the first place since they back their products up to five years.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate the help!
ReplyDeleteWow, I never thought about asking Seagate for a replacement hard drive. Good thinking there, thanks!! I'll pull out the hard drive when I'm free and check out the specs of it. I also heard taking out the hard drive and shooting some compressed air at it might help, is there any chance you can possibly confirm that this is okay?
I was also planning on getting an upgraded hard drive, possibly a 320GB instead of getting another 120GB hard drive... decisions, decisions! It might be time to upgrade since Cyber Monday is just around the corner.
Again, thanks!!
Eric
I don't believe shooting air at it would do any good since the HD itself doesn't have any openings. I recommend buying a shell and doing a data transfer before the HD stops spinning unless you have an external HD ready. Yeah, a 320GB HD is probably priced at 120GB HD was a few years ago haha. You're welcome, by the way. I hope everything works out. :)
